History

Downtown Alpharetta's history began as a small agrarian trading post in the 1830s that became the county seat in 1858, enduring events like the Civil War and the Great Depression. The community remained small until the late 1980s, when a combination of the Highway 400 expansion, the Windward development, and an influx of tech companies transformed it into the prosperous, modern city center it is today, while retaining historical charm.
