History
Cumming, GA was founded in the 1830s, named for Colonel William Cumming, and grew from a small farming town to a suburban area of Atlanta. Its history includes a period of economic growth during the gold rush, a decline due to railroads bypassing it, and being spared during the Civil War. However, a dark chapter in its past is the 1912 lynching of Rob Edwards and the subsequent forced expulsion of the Black population from Forsyth County, an event that had a lasting impact.

Cumming, Georgia has plenty to offer. You can hike scenic trails at Sawnee Mountain Preserve or bike along Big Creek Greenway. Lake Lanier and Mary Alice Beach Park are great for swimming and kayaking. For parks, Fowler Park and Caney Creek Preserve have playgrounds and trails. The Cumming City Center is perfect for shopping, dining, and live events, while Halcyon and Vickery Village offer more local charm.
